Recap
Oct 21, 427
Following the horrific death of Bartosz, the party was in disarray. Sapporobir, seemingly in a daze, took the body of his companion and stumbled from the cave.
After a quick conference between the others, Karmrakir took Nalin and Gregosz and followed after Sapporo. The battlemage brothers also followed, not having other orders from their leader, Sapporobir. Gregoire and Fingol went to the donkey train and took it back toward the cave, hoping to recover the gnoll teeth Tavenna had extracted, and store them safely in the metamphorae carried by the donkeys.
On the return trip to the cave, they ran into three lizardmen and quickly slew them, but did not pause to collect components, since they wanted to return to Karm and Sapporo as quickly as possible. Fingol thought Sapporo looked likely to do something rash.
Back at the camp, Sapporo began to leave by himself, heading back toward Amtolosz. Karm convinced him to delay an hour and travel with the party. Sapporo made it clear he wished to return Bartosz’s body to Amtolosz, not bury him in the wilderness.
Gregoire and Fingol returned with the donkey train, and it was decided to break camp immediately.
That evening, Iahzir approached Fingol and demanded that the lizardman scales be burnt as an offering of appeasement to the Wonder Sky. No one shared his pagan idea, but in order to appease the angry dragonman, Fingol gave him the scales in lieu of his share of the treasure and allowed him to burn the valuable components. Though he greatly regretted the loss of potion ingredients, Fingol considered it worth the cost to keep the powerful dragonman on their side.

Approaching Amtolosz, Sapporo dismissed his two battlemage henchmen, telling them that he had no further duties for them. Fingol gave them a share of the coin, and they left.
At the gates of Amtolosz, there was a brief argument between Karm and the town guards, who flatly refused to allow a giant spider and multiple war-bears into the town. Fingol agreed to keep his mercenaries and animal handler at a camp outside the town with the animals, and set Iahzir to command them.
Sapporo brought the body of Bartosz to the Church of Blessed Light, and Karmrakir informed Bartosz’s father. With the funeral set for the next day, Sapporo determined to sit in vigil over the body all night. Gregoire and Karmrakir worried for him since he was wounded and had not eaten since he left the cave. They badgered him to eat and rest until he left the church.
Oct 23
A town crier: “Duke Adacos returns from Zel Gharakt!”
The funeral was held. While the others watched the prayers, Sapporo slipped away.
After the funeral a navgarine approached Fingol and introduced himself. Frannoc, a self-described invisible broker of information, wished to join the company. Gregoire and Karm were suspicious, but Fingol was eager to trust a fellow countryman who wished to join the cause. He convinced them to admit Frannoc on a probationary basis.
Frannoc Dreiwan, 3rd level Navgarine Agent
Fingol took his leave, saying he was going to the market to sell goods from their recent expedition. First, he visited the Earl, wishing to ask about the earl’s intelligence agents, and for help setting up such things for his own barony. On the way, he witnessed the end of an argument between the Earl and a group of Paladin Protectors.
The earl was less than forthcoming on agents, but Fingol learned of the conflict between the paladin protectors and the earl over his treatment of the heaven-daughters. The paladin protectors kept heaven-daughters strictly confined. Earl Ilcarion claimed that his way honored the heaven daughters properly by allowing them to bless the town. Fingol suspected some kind of dark secret behind this, given Keeper Racisil’s apparent use of natural power to control the women. He kept his reservations quiet for now.
The party was now coming up to the time when they had arranged with the Earl to double-cross the Unpledged. The unpledged were to attack the earl’s new fortress along with the party, and slay the heaven-daughters. But the earl had been informed and was laying an ambush. This was to happen the night of Oct 24.
Fingol met with Captain Mitronisz, and established the plan, that Fingol would personally lead the unpledged into the fortress. Captain Mitronisz and his men would lie in wait on a balcony. Fingol would fly up to the balcony, and this would be the signal to rain down fire upon the unpledged.
